The BurdaStyle Sewing Handbook Giveaway!

Thanks to everyone who came out to the BurdaStyle event in November. Book parties at Housing Works Bookstore are always a blast and, as is evident from the glittery highlights below, the celebration for the BurdaStyle Sewing Handbook was no exception. I was “inking” folks all night long — and applied a total of about 50 glitter tattoos (which were provided generously by iLoveToCreate.com)!

Giant cover displays peppered the tables, samples from the pages of the book were hung all through the rafters…

Event sponsor Singer had make-and-take tables set up for DIY drawstring bags using fabric from Spoonflower, and there was the iLoveToCreate glitter tattoo setup, with your glitter tattoo artiste, me! And I didn’t even catch a glimpse of the photo booth fun that was happening at the other end of the room.

Here I am in action, glitter brush and dish poised and ready for the next willing victim! (As you can see, I wore my sparkle headband for the occasion.)

Pink anchors, basketballs swooshing through hoops…

A recycling heart and a classic sparrow.

Black hearts and flowers for the truly badass…

And while most opted for the wrist or inner forearm, there were a few face, neck, and even underarm tattoos administered!

Like I said, there were many, many glitter tattoos applied throughout the night, while folks frolicked and celebrated the release of the next new sewing book!

And since I know many of you wanted to be there in person, but couldn’t make it on such short notice, I’m extending the party online (okay, sorry, no glitter tattoos via html) by sending one of you lucky readers off with a copy of The BurdaStyle Sewing Handbook, courtesy of BurdaStyle! All you need to do to enter is leave a comment on this post or on the Generation T Facebook page sharing why you love to sew before noon on Wednesday December 14. One entry per person; to have a bonus entry count, send us a tweet sharing why you love to sew, tagging both @GenerationTee and @BurdaStyle.

I’ll select a winner randomly and make the announcement later this week via the Generation T blog, Facebook, and Twitter. Here’s to sewing up a storm this holiday season!

I make the clothes for myself exactly as I want them. I also can repair and alter clothes so they have a longer life. I feel good about it. It’s so nice to do something creative and fun and practical.

  2. Lisa Jackson says:

Sewing is my stress reliever at time and I can get my clothes in the right. Size and colour.

  3. I love sewing as an alternative creative outlet besides my usual drawing, painting, and writing. I love the fact that the result is something I can wear and say “yeah,i made this..”

  4. Liz says:

Hmm. Well, I’m not much of a seamstress, but I love to sew because I love to get involved in any kind of creativity, no matter how lopsided (or lovely) the result… And it’s always fun to dream up beautiful clothes to make!

  5. Linsey Hunt says:

I love to sew because I get to create awesome and nifty things for my 4 year old son. His eyes light up every time I create a new stuffed animal or hat. =)

  7. Christine C says:

I love to sew because it allows me to make things myself and save money. I see something that I like (dress, skirt, bag, etc.) and then I make it. 🙂

  8. Angi says:

I love to sew because I can repair or reinvent things rather than replacing. And I just love to make things!

  9. Willa says:

I love to sew because the result is so satisfying. The moment you’re done, you feel proud at what you created. I feel a tiny bit haughty when I walk into department stores and see something I’ve made, I just think, I can do that, and it’s a really good feeling. I love to sew because there are countless possibilities. Sewing spreads joy, festivity, excitement, love… anything. Nearly every funky or fabulous thing I create gives me a good feeling.

well TOUGH KUMQUATS! i love sewing anyway!

i love sewing because it gives me a chance to create neat and unique pieces of clothing, toys, bags, etc. It’s helping me with my terrible hand eye coordination and also helps me save money by recycling my old clothing. i can also make one of a kind gifts for friends and experiment with my own designs.
